Anyim Pius Anyim?s early educations were at Ishiagu High School and Federal School of Arts and Science, Aba. After his secondary education, he got admission to study law at, Imo State University, Uturu, Okigwe in Imo State. After his graduation in the year 1987, He did his Youth Service as the Co-coordinator, Youth Mobilization Program in Sokoto State. Anyim Pius Anyim was in the year 1992, appointed the Head of Protection Department of the National Commission for Refugees, Abuja, where he also provided legal services for the refugees.
Anyim Pius Anyim joined politics in 1998 when he became a member of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP). He moved to People's Democratic Party (PDP), and successfully contested and won election to the Senate in 1999. After he took office as a senator, he was appointed the President of the Senate in August 2000, after Chuba Okadigbo had been impeached.
On May 30, 2011, Anyim Pius Anyim was appointed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Federal Republic of Nigeria.
