George Akume, former Governor of Benue State and Senator of the F ederal Republic of Nigeria was born on December 27, 1953.
George Akume studied Sociology at the University of Ibadan(U.I) where he graduated
with a Bachelor's degree In Sociology. He thereafter went back to the school to obtain his Master's Degree In Labour Relations. He later went into the Civil service and got to the height of his career by becoming a permanent secretary.George Akume contested in the Governorship elections in the 1999 Nigerian General elections and won under the platform of the People?s Democratic Party(PDP). He was again re-lected in 2003 for a second term in office.
After his second tenure as the Governor of Benue State, he contested for the Senatorial Seat in Benue North West in the 2007 senatorial elections and won. He was again re-elected as a senator representing Benue North West senatorial District in the 2011 elections, but this time around under the Action Congress of Nigeria(ACN) .
In 2015, he came on the race again, however under the All Progressive Congress(APC) and again won.
