In an interview with daily independent, on when she was asked what was more tasking; to be a producer or to be a presenter, she has this to say- ?I would say the production part of it because I am the producer. If I were not to be, all I would do is just to come in the morning and do the talking. The production part of it is challenging because I have to look at the colouration of the programme in terms of the graphics, the kind of guests that I want; credible guest of course, people that would talk and you have one or two things to learn from them. And there is also the coordination; it is not just about me and my team, it is also about me and even those in the studio ? my cameramen, director, audio person, the VCR person and all that. So, I think the production part is more challenging because there are times that I may not like what I see at the end of the show and I have to call a meeting and ask ?what happened? Can we get it better? What are the challenges? Can we sort them out and all of that? So, the production aspect is difficult?.
Again on whether she knew if this was the career for her while growing up; she has this to say? While I was young and if I were probably asked what I wanted to be, I would say a teacher. Now, I am not a teacher, but I am actually teaching, not in the class room anyway. It is just that the platform for me is on the TV. Back in school, while in the science class, I noticed that I had the artistic tendencies, that I could direct a movie, I could write plays, which I did in secondary school and won accolades for it. If I was not on TV doing presentation, I probably I would be in the art world one way or the other but I do not think I would have been a medical doctor".
In addition, in a question on what motivates her, she has this to say?
My motivations are challenges. I am someone who does not run away from challenges. As difficult as they can be, I will come into the eye of it and I will acknowledge the challenges but I will ask myself ?Nancy, how do you confront this challenge?? For me, at that time it was a challenge when the executive producer told me ?you really need to go and think it, if you really want to be part of this thing? and I went back and I said why not? Everyone is doing entertainment, sports, politics, and the soft side, as you have called it. But someone must also do the hard side ? if finance is the hard side, I agree it is a hard side but for me, I do not really think it is like that. I feel that whatsoever you put your heart to, you will achieve. It is just that most of us do not want to be dedicated and committed to what we do. A departure, yes, because I never envisaged that. I knew I would be in broadcasting because all of my school life, I have been on TV. I am actually doing something different. For half of the decade as it were, I have been on the business show. So, I do not think it is impossible. I would say it is tough but of course, there are some other ladies that come to me and say they really like what I am doing, even some men that come to me to say they really want to do what I am doing. They keep coming to say ?Nancy I can?t do this.? Yes, I had cases like that and they would wonder how I cope and I always say for the fact that I am coping, you can also cope if you put your mind to it. So, I would say it is what I just put my mind to. I actually do things that I do not settle for ? things that other people are good enough for. My team members know me, my assistant, and my assistant producer also do; they know that I do not settle for good enough. Am I in control of the event? If am in control of it, I have an edge in making it better, not just good enough. So, I think that is my philosophy.?
It is worthy to note that Nancy Illoh has been the recipient of some awards. From her place in Delta State, she was given the title of ?youth role model in the country?.
