Sunday Ogorchukwu Oliseh was born in Ojota Lagos State of Nigeria on September 14, 1974. his father is a business man, while
his mother is a staunch Catholic and a retired business woman. He is however, an indigene of Abavo, Delta State Nigeria. He was once a Nigerianfootballer who played as a midfielder. He later became the coach of the Nigerian national football team.
Football Career.
During his active days as a footballer, Sunday Oliseh, a physical, technical defensive midfielderplayed for eight clubs during his career in Europe. They are Juventus, Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, Bochum, RFC Liege, Reggiana, FC Cologne and Genk .
In his days, Sunday Oliseh actually played 54 international matches and scored two goals for Nigeria. Sunday Oliseh also played two world cups i.e. that of 1994 and 1998. He was one of the members of the Nigerian National team who won the Olympic gold medal in the year 1996.
Sunday Oliseh scored the winning thunderbolt goal in the group stage match which Nigeria played against Spain in the 1998 World Cup, when Nigeria eventually emerged winner by 3?2. A throw-in taken by the Nigerian side, deep in the Spanish half was headed by the defender ? Oliseh then ran and fired a shot described as explosive from 25 yards into the net, taking the Spanish goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta by surprise. In the year 2002, Sunday Olise was the Captain of the Nigerian National Team during the 2002 African Cup of Nations. He was however omitted from the Nigeria?s World Cup squad later that year for disciplinary reasons. Having not been featured in the World Cup selection, Sunday Oliseh retired from international football in June 2002.
In March of the year 2004, Sunday Oliseh left the Borussia Dortmund after it was reported that he punched his team-mate Vahid Hashemian while on loan at VfL Bochum.
In January of the year 2006, when he was 31 years of age, Sunday Oliseh retired from professional football after he played a half season for his club K.R.C. Genk. He won four major trophies as a player at club level: a domestic cup double for Ajax in the 1997-98 season, KNVB Cup 1998-99 season and the Bundesliga title with Borussia Dortmund 2001?02.
Coaching Career
After retiring from professional football, Sunday Oliseh went for training as football coach.
In July 2015, he was appointed the new coach of the Nigerian National Team, Super Eagle, a job he returned to Nigeria to take-up on July 14, 2015. To motivate him, The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) gave him a brand new Nissan Altima 2.5 SL 2015 Model.
Sunday is blessed with one sister (Tessy) and three brothers.
