Funsho Kupolokun Born in 1947.
He studied at the University of Lagos where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in  Mechanical Engineering as a Shell scholar in 1971.  After his graduation, he
joined Shell BP production department before moving on to Nigeria National Oil Corporation (NNPC) in 1972.

He was married to Olubukola Olatokunbo for 36years prior to her death and they are blessed with children, namely, yetunde, odunnayo Oluwakemi.
His wife died on June 29, 2014 after a battle with cancer.

He was sent to France from 1972 ? 1973 for training attachment, and was attached to the Algerian National Oil Company where he worked as Production Engineer in Sahara Desert Oil field of Hassa-Messand from 1973 to 1974. He worked with Nigerian Agip Oil Company and Ashland Oil Nigeria in Port-Harcourt between 1974 and 1977.

Funsho  Kupolokun  became Head of Production of the E & E Division in 1979 at a tender age of 32. This was as a result of the fact that after his training attachment in 1977, he was given triple jump promotion from Grade II officer to Assistant Chief Officer (1st and only one of its kind in NNPC).  In 1982, he became Head of Special Projects in the Joint Venture Division of the Corporation where he oversaw the implementation of special projects, information management, budgeting, strategies plans and the development of new business such as Natural Gas and Natural Gas Liquids.  In 1985, he was appointed Head of the Petroleum Engineering Department.

His most outstanding contribution in the oil and gas industry and the Nigerian Economy at large, was when he led a small team of engineers, economists and accountants to develop the fiscal policy document famously known as MOU, to salvage the economy when then there was a crash in Oil prices to as low as $5.00/bld and oil OPEC price structure collapsed.  This developed structure guaranteed steady income and encouraged the operations to strive for low operating cost to promote efficiency in the industry and bigger earn to client from oil operations. He also spent sometime as head of the London Office of the Corporation where he helped to raise cash for the first LNG project through Buy-in for 5% stake in the Shell/NNPC JV operations.

In 1990, he was again doubly promoted from Manager to Group General Manager and in 1992 he became the Group Executive Director, Commercial and Investment, making him the Youngest to serve on the NNPC Group Board ever. Engr. Kupolokun retired prematurely in 1993 but was appointed the Special Assistant to the President in 1999. 

In view of the fact that he is a firm believer in standing up for what he believes in, he led a nationwide campaign for liberalization, deregulation and appropriate pricing of petroleum products.  The President was so impressed by his performance as Special Assistant that he later appointed him Group Managing Director of NNPC in November to help drive the reform agenda in the oil and gas sector.  Engineer Kupolokun is currently the champion of Substantial Nigerian Content in the overall activities of the oil & gas industry, Natural Gas Monetization and flare reduction initiating now LNG Projects and the West African Gas Projects.

Funsho Kupolokun has now become a petroleum engineer and a petroleum economist haven moved from his mechanical engineering background. He holds the Honorary Doctor Degree of University of Agriculture Makurdi. He is currently Chairman of several boards in the oil and gas industry.

In October, 2015, he was named as one of the ministerial nominees to be screened by the National Assembly under the President buhari led administration.
