Mohammed Sani Saleh was born on November 9, 1955. He is an indigene of Kaduna State. He is a retired Major General.
He attended Kaduna Polytechnic where he obtained a Higher National Diploma(HND) in Quantity Surveying. He also attended the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Prior to joining politics, he was Chief of Army Training and Operations and General Officer Commanding 2 Division.
In the 2011 elections, Mohammed Sani Saleh contested for Kaduna Central senatorial seat under the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change(CPC) and won.
At the elections, Mohammed Saleh defected the former executive secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, Hamisu Yusuf Abubakar (Mairago) of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), and Hajia Halima Aminu Turaki of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). After being declared the winner, Saleh praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their conduct of the election, saying "INEC has performed creditably well this time around, very commendable, I hope this will be repeated in subsequent elections".
