Tajudeen Afolabi Adeola is a businessman and politician. He is the founder and chairman of the FATE Foundation.
Adeola attended Methodist Boys High School, Lagos. After
secondary school education, he attended Yaba College of Technology where he obtained a Diploma in Accounting in 1975. He furthered his studies and became a Chartered Accountant in 1980 after training with Deloitte, Haskins and Sells and D.O. Dafinone & Company (both Chartered Accountants). Tajudeen have over the years received professional development training at notable institutions from around the world including Harvard Business School, INSEAD, and the International Institute for Management Development, Switzerland.
He also attended the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, Jos, Nigeria, where he carried out research on economic development and job creation policies, and completed a one-year sabbatical in the year 1999.
In 1990, Tajudeen teamed-up with Tayo Aderinokun to established Guaranty Trust Bank, at which he became the managing director/CEO from its inception in 1990 until July 2002. The bank was quoted in the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 1996.
In the year 2002, Adeola voluntarily retired from Guaranty Trust Bank, having put in all his experience to build the bank for a period of twelve years. Since his voluntary resignation from Guarantee Trust Bank, Adeola have sat at the helm of affairs of the following companies and/or institutions:Credit Registry Services, Cardinal Stone Partners Limited, Eterna Oil, UTC, ARM, Lotus Capital, Tafsan Breweries (board member) and One Cable Company Limited. It was One Cable Company Limited that handled the construction of the open access submarine cable system that spanned through 14,000 kilometres and provides international and internet connectivity to countries on the Atlantic Coast from Portugal to Lagos Nigeria in the year 2010.
Adeola was a Chairman of the National Pension Commission. As such, he oversaw the drafting of the Pension Bill which was eventually passed into law by the Nigerian National Assembly. He was the chairman of the Lagos State Disaster Relief Committee that was set up following the January 27, 2002 Lagos armory explosion.
In 2011, Adeola contested election as the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) as running mate to former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission chairman (EFCC) Nuhu Ribadu.
Tajudeen has served as a member of the following organiszations/Institution: the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria; the Global Advisory Committee on Philanthropy of the World Economic Forum; National Honours and Awards Committee; Governing Council of Lagos State University; Solid Minerals Committee (constituted by the Federal Government) Lagos State University Council and Olabisi Onabanjo University Council.
In the year 2000, Adeola founded FATE Foundation, a non-governmental organization that aims at encouraging entrepreneurship by training, mentoring, giving of loan and consulting to support young Nigerians. The foundation has so far supported over 30,000 young Nigerian entrepreneurs, out of which more than 65% are self employed by their own businesses and are in turn, employing the average of about four staff.
In the year 2001, Adeola was invited to join twenty-four other business leaders for the Aspen Institute ISIB Annual Business Leaders Dialogue in Aspen, Colorado, and in May 2004, the British Prime Minister Tony Blair, appointed him Commissioner on the Commission for Africa.
Adeola is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors of Nigeria.
On December 2002, he was decorated as Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) by President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Adeola is married to Hajara, and the have six children.
