Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, the action Governor of Edo State was born on April 4, 1953. He studied Economics and Industrial Relations at Rustkin College, Oxford, United Kingdom.
He is married. He however lost his wife Clara to breast Cancer in December, 2010. She beget five
children.
Adams Oshiomhole worked with Arewa Textiles Company.
In the year 1982, the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, a union with over 75, 000 workers, appointed Adams Oshiomhole as their General Secretary. As the General Secretary of the Union, Adams Oshiomhole became very active in labour union activities. In the year 1999, Adms Oshiomhole became the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress. His administration was known for playing active role in moderating the Obasanjo?s Administration on its fuel pricing policy and other social and economic policies, which potentially threatened the welfare of workers.
At the international level, Adams Oshiomhole was a member of the committee on Freedom of Association of the International Labour Organization. He was also a member of the Executive Board of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), Adams was also a member of the Executive Board of the African Regional Organization of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions.
In April 2007, Adams Oshiomhole contested for the position of the Governor of Edo State under the Action Congress Party and won. However, Oserheimen Osunbor of the People?s Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner. But Adams Oshiomhole and his party, the AC contested the election result at the governorship election Tribunal. On March 20, 2008, the election was nullified, and Adams Oshiomhole was declared the winner. On November 11, 2008, the Court of Appeal upheld the ruling of the state?s elections petitions tribunal, declaring Oshiomole to be the Governor of Edo State.
In the year 2012, Adams Oshiomhole re-contested for the same position and was elected for a second term as the Governor of Edo State.
In May 2015, five years after the death of his first wife, he remarried. He wedded a young and pretty lady from Cape Verda Islands by name Lara Fortes and the wedding was well attended by the then President elect- Muhammadu Buhari and other top dignitaries in Nigeria.
