Chiwetalu Umeadi Ejiofor is an Igbo man, from Anambra State of Nigeria, born in London's Forest Gateon July 10, 1977, to Nigerian parents of Igbo origin. His father?s name is  Arinze Ejiofor, who when he was alive was a medical doctor, while his mother?s name is Obiajulu (Okafor) who was a pharmacist. Chiwetalu has three
siblings among which is a younger sister who is a CNN correspondent by name Zain Asher.
Chiwetalu Ejiofor attended Dulwich College and London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and by the age of 13 he was appearing in numerous school and National Youth Theatre productions.
Chiwetalu Ejiofor lost his father in the year 1988, when he was only 11 years old, at the time they went for a family trip to Nigeria over a wedding ceremony, While Chiwetalu Ejiofor and his father were driving to Lagos after the marriage ceremony, their car was involved in a head-on crash with a lorry. His father died instantly, but Ejiofor survived, though He was badly injured, and received scars that are still visible on his forehead. 
Chiwetalu Ejiofor?s acting career began while he was still in school. Then he plays at the age of thirteen at Dulwich College and joined the National Youth Theatre. He played a role in Steven Spielberg's film Amistad. He also played played the title role in Othello at the Bloomsbury Theatrein September 1995, and later in the Theatre Royal, Glasgow in 1996 when he starred opposite Rachael Stirling, who played Desdemona.
In the year 1996, Chiwetalu made his film debut in the film Deadly Voyage.He also acted in Steven Spielberg's Amistad. In the the year 1999, he appeared in the British film G:MT ? Greenwich Mean Time, while in the year 2000, he starred in Blue/Orange at the Royal National Theatre. Also in the same year 2000,he performed as Romeo in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and was consequently nominated for the Ian Charleson Award for his performance.
In the year 2002, Chiwetalu Ejiofor had his first leading film role  in the film Dirty Pretty Things. Owing to his performance in the film, he won a British Independent Film Award for best actor. Apart from the films already mentioned, Ejiofor has featured in so many other films in both the United Kingdom and Hollywood.
Apart from several other national and international awards, Chiwetalu Ejiofor was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the year 2008.
