D'banj (Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo), a Nigerian singer and songwriter who was born on June 9, 1980 in Zaria, Kaduna State of Nigeria. D?banj was registered in a military school at the age of 11
following his father?s career because his father was a military officer. While at the military school,
D?banj enrolled with an elite drum corp of the Nigerian Army. After his primary education, D?banj got enrolled with the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ibara, Abeokuta. After his secondary school, D?banj got admission into the University to study mechanical Engineering.
Later in time, D'banj?s elder brother Femi Oyebanjo (deceased), introduced him to the harmonica shortly before his death in a plane clash at the age of 17. D?banj could not complete his university in Nigeria, as he planned to travel to London to continue.
When he got to London, D?banj met Don Jazzy and the two started working together. This particular incident was a game changer in the life of D?banj who immediately abandoned his purpose of traveling all the way to London as he started hanging around the studio.
In the year 2004, Don Jazzy and D?banj returned to Nigeria hoping to tap into the Nigeria?s blossoming music industry. That same year they both came up with the video ?Tongolo?, which was paid for by D?banj?s mother. Since then, D?banj has done a lot of music which have won him several awards both local and international.
D'banj is the founder of Koko Foundation for Youth and Peace Development. He is also Nigeria's first United Nations Youth Ambassador for Peace.
