Eze Festus Odimegwu was born on August 7, 1953. He is a native of Umuoka Ubirielem in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State Nigeria.
At a tender age, Eze Festus Odimegwu began his primary education at Christ the
King School, CKS, situate in Aba. His primary education was interrupted by the Civil War which lasted for three years. During the war, Festus and his parents relocated to his village, Umuoka Ubirielem in Orsu Local Government Area in Imo State of Nigeria. When the war ended, his father. Not being sure whether another war would ensue, decided to stay back home with his family. This decision led to Festus completing his primary education at St. Mary?s Primary School, Umuoka Ubirielem. There, he obtained his First school Leaving certificate, and was the only person who made Grade-I distinction at St.Mary?s back then.
Festus Odimegwu later enrolled in the Community Secondary School Awo Idemmili in Imo State. While in secondary school, Festus was good in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Following his performances in the subject, his fellow students and his teachers nick-named him Prof. At the end of his secondary education, Festus got admission into the University of Nigeria, there he made first class Honours in Chemistry.
Festus began his Career at Nigeria Breweries PLC., as a Trainee Brewer between 1980 and 1982. In April to July 1982, he was a Shift Assistant Brewer in Training. Between 1982 to 1984, he was the Shift Brewer I/c Bottling. In 1984-1985 he became Brewer I/c Brewing. Between 1985-1987 he was the Technological Controller. In 1987-1988 he was the Production Manager. Between 1988 on till 1989, he traveled to Heriot Watt University Edinburgh for his Masters Degree. When He came back to Nigeria, he resumed his duty, at this time, as Brewery/Senior Technical Manager, a position he held between 1989-1992, followed by being a Sales Director 1992-1993; Food Coordination AMEG Unilever London 1993-1995; Marketing Director Lever Brothers Ghana 1995-1997; MD/CEO Nigerian Breweries 1997-2006.
Festus Odimegwu also studied at Stanford University Graduate School of Business, Unilever Four Acres Training Centre and Wharton Business School. Apart from being a professional Chemist and Natural Scientist, Festus Odimegwu also holds professional certificates in the following fields: Business Planning, Business Strategy, Change Management , Entrepreneurship Management, Negotiation and Marketing Strategy, Turn Around Management, Leadership, New Business Development Strategy, Strategic Planning, Team Building, etc.
Festus Odimegwu left the management of Nigerian Breweries PLC in the year 2006. He had the opportunity of working with the Heineken Company in Germany, but he decided to stay back in Nigeria to pursue other business interests. He floated a company he named the Royal Lifestyle Services Group of Companies Ltd and other business organizations including Quintessentially Nigeria, Recherché signature Events and Gifts and sole marketers of Angel champagne, for which he now acts as a non Executive Director.
On June 26, 2012, Festus Odimegwu was appointed the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. Upon his appointment as the new NPC chairman, President Jonathan directed the Commission to be in charge of the efforts towards the issuance of a national identity card to every Nigerian by the year 2015. Rising to the task, Festus Odimegwu immediately proposed a new biometric data capturing process for the Nigeria?s next census. According to him, the new biometric capture process will save Nigeria billions of Naira by unifying every other similar projects, being conducted by various agencies of government. It will also help Nigeria to have a better economic planning for national development.
On July 27, 2013, The Chairman National Population Commission, Festus Odimegwu, was honoured with a Professional Leadership Award at the occasion of the 2013, Leadership Awards, which took place at the Civic centre, at Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island Lagos.
On October 12, 2013, PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari, sent the second list of his ministerial nominees to the Nigerian Senate President Bukola Saraki, and this list included Eze Festus Onimegwu amngst the nominees.
