Funso Amosun the amiable first lady of Ogun State is wife to Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the Governor of Ogun State. She is an indigene of Ogun State. Her marriage
with the Governor is blessed with five children.she has been married for more than 20years to the Governor.
Funso Amosun was born on May 2, 1966, to late Bishop Ayoade Adesanya and Deaconess Christiana Odesanya. She was brought up by God fearing parents who inculcated many noteworthy virtues in her, chief amongst which is humility. Despite being a Christian by birth, her parents gave their blessings by permitting her to marry a moslem.
Funso Amosun was born in London. She began her primary school education at St James Norland School in the United Kingdom. Thereafter, she returned to Nigeria to attend Yejide Girls Grammar school in Ibadan from 1977 ? 1982. She then proceeded to Oyo State College of Arts and Science for her Advanced level education from1983 ? 1985 before gaining admission into University of Ife, now known as Obafemi Awolowo University where she bagged a Bachelor?s Degree in English Education.
Funso Amosun went further to obtain a master?s degree in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos.
Funso Amosun later went for her National Youth Service. In an interview on how she met her husband, she has this to say ?For my youth service, I was posted to an information technology firm, where we trained professionals on ICT. Then, my husband was a chartered accountant (still is) and the software programme for accounting was Lotus, which has evolved to Excel. I was versed in information technology despite my degree in English Education. So, when his company requested training for their professionals, I was the one assigned to go and train them and that was how we met.?
She also worked briefly as part of a loss adjustment team in Barclay?s Financial Services and New Prudential Insurance Company, in the United Kingdom in the 1990?s.
Formally a Senator?s wife and now a Governor?s wife, her main preoccupation over the years has been one of support to her husband in his various philanthropic activities in Ogun State.
Funso Amosun has been actively involved in coordinating scholarship schemes through the SIA (Senator Ibikunle Amosun) Foundation and organising the implementation of empowerment schemes and support programmes designed to assist the less privileged in the society.
Her position as the First Lady of Ogun State has impacted the lives of some women in the state, she reaffirms also in an interview that her team is strategising on alleviating poverty among women.
She has this to say on how she would improve on the lives of the citizens in Ogun State ?We have assessed the situation and strategised on what to do. We want to access the vocational training centres all over the states and the children?s home. I invited the market women to know what they want and what their needs are. We have interacted with wives of local government chairmen/councillors.
?We have the information and we have started applying ourselves to them. My dream is to see Ogun State women in a better place when we are leaving the government house. I am bent on poverty alleviation,? .
